99 Fishing – F2P

Fishing can be quite lucrative and a rewarding skill, in both financial and social aspects. It allows people to gather around locations where they are able to interact with other players and perhaps make new friends. At higher levels the Fishing skill can be a great way at making money with minimal effort (aka not paying attention-afk).

Training

Levels 1-15
Shrimp fishing, while slow at first, is relatively good xp and can be used to gain a few gp. The best spot to train using Shrimp is next to Draynor Bank. The bank is a few steps away from the spot and you can talk to Wc’ers while you’re at it. While people may say that as your level progresses it is better to move on to Sea Bait fishing, there are no banks close to these spots and freeing up inventory space will require either long bank trips or dropping all your fish. In my opinion it’s not worth it and xp gain is slowed down by either of these inventory freeing options.

Levels 15-20
Anchovies. There really is no difference between this step and the last, the spot is the same and you will also be catching Shrimp while you’re at it. However, Anchovies sell for much higher than Shrimp and give a fair bit more xp. The same spot (Draynor) is recommended.

Level 20-25/30
At this point you should switch over to Fly Fishing. Fishing Trout at the spot Northeast of Barbarian Village is recommended, it is closer to the bank than the other spots and there are more people meaning more conversations meaning less boredom (which I’m sure is a good thing lol). You can choose to either stick with Trout up until level 30 or switch over to Pike at level 25. Both fish are caught at the same spots. I believe the xp per hour is nearly the same; I personally chose to stick with it till level 30 because I saved a few extra gp by killing some chickens for feathers.

Level 30-40/99
Fly Fishing is definitely recommended at this level, if you chose to fish Pike switch back over to Fly Fishing. At this level you can fish Salmon and are also able to fish at a much higher rate. Side note-Fly Fishing IS the fastest fishing xp in the game, especially in F2P. If you are interested in simply leveling your Fishing skill rather than making money, stick with this till level 99.

Level 40-50/99
Ahh….Lobsters..Wonderful things..Lobsters are great xp and great money over time if you have patience and determination. It may be slow at first but the xp and money are most certainly worth it. There are only two spots in F2P, and one is in the Wild, which leaves only one sensible option unless you want to die or enjoy long (dangerous) walks to the bank. Fishing in Karamja is the best spot for F2P, especially if you have the Explorer Ring 3, which is capable of reducing bank trips by less than half. You can either choose to fish lobsters to 99, which is what I personally recommend and did, or you can begin fishing Swordfish at level 50.

Level 50-99
At level 50 you are able to fish Swordfish which is the most expensive Fish in F2P and can be pretty good cash but have two drawbacks-They’re slower and you catch Tuna along with them. Swordfish are caught at the same spots as Lobsters and like Lobsters, Karamja is the best location for them.

Anchovies - level 15 - 40 xp each (Net Fishing)

Trout - level 20 - 50 xp each (Fly Fishing)

Pike - level 25 - 60 xp each (River Bait Fishing)

Salmon - level 30 - 70 xp each (Fly Fishing)

Tuna - level 35 - 80 xp each (Harpoon Fishing)

Lobster - level 40 - 90 xp each (Cage Fishing)

Swordfish - level 50 - 100 xp each (Harpoon Fishing)

Items Used During Fishing

Net Fishing- Small Net

Sea/River Bait Fishing- Fishing Rod + Fishing Bait

Fly Fishing- Fly Fishing Rod + Feathers

Harpoon Fishing- Harpoon + GP (every trip to and from Karamja by boat costs 30 GP)

Cage Fishing- Lobster Pot + GP

Some items that are not directly involved in actually catching the fish but can help in other ways are:

Swordfish Gloves- Add 100 xp to each Swordfish caught. A common misconception is that Swordfish gloves increase the rate at which swordfish are caught or that they allow you to catch only Swordfish with no Tuna, both are false. (Require Level 65 Fishing)

Explorer Ring 3- This ring allows you to teleport to a cabbage patch north west of Draynor, it's also directly north of a deposit box on Port Sarim next to some Monks of Entrana (brown monks). It reduces trips from Karamja to a bank by less than half and saves you 30 GP each time you bank.
